The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office bomb squad, detonated a backpack that a woman dropped off at the Federal Center in Lakewood on Monday, claiming that it had a bomb inside. She was arrested by guards at the Federal Center after making the claim, and is being interrogated by Lakewood Police. Sally Mayberry, a spokeswoman for the General Services Administration, said that the woman walked up to one of the gates on Monday and said that she had a bomb. Mayberry informed that she had backpack with wires hanging out of it.
The threat forced the authorities to close southbound Kipling Street between 6th Avenue and Alameda Avenue. Everyone inside the building were notified of the incident and a construction project, near that area was evacuated.
The woman's car was located at a nearby Lowe's store. Security investigated the vehicle but nothing was found from the car. The Denver Federal Center houses 28 agencies in 44 federal buildings, according to their website.
